Penduline continues its collaboration with instrument maker Léo Maurel in the form of a new instrument and a dedicated sound installation.
Designed around an ultra-compact organ wind chest, Penduline is a wind instrument with eight outlets.
The blower is built directly into the instrument, and the turbine speed can be controlled via MIDI.
Each output is fitted with a punctured balloon that distributes air into a cluster of bird calls. Conceived as an experimental orchestra of bird calls, as a surrogate for avian wildlife, Penduline plays the field recording of a parallel space-time.
The name refers (once again) to a bird: the Penduline Tit (Remiz pendulinus) (formerly known as the ‘Penduline Tit’ or ‘Polish Tit’) is a species of passerine bird in the Remizidae family.
This bird is notable for building a woven nest shaped like a pear or a ball, suspended from a tree branch.
