MONOPOLY OF BELLS / M.O.B
Monopoly Of Bells
Lukas De Clerck, Charles Dubois, Katya Shirshkova, Clément Vercelletto
Monopoly of Bells explores a shifting soundscape, blending amplified breath and voice, pipes, modular synthesis and prepared drums.
United by a desire to delve into both composed forms, where the sound space and gestures are predetermined, and moments of improvised material, of sonic fusion, the four musicians play a unique set of instruments: aulos (an extinct 'double oboe'), boha (bagpipes from Landes de Gascogne), prepared voice, drums and modular synthesiser.
The quartet constructs its pieces empirically, exploring the intrinsic qualities of each instrument and each sound, seeking to interweave timbres. An interplay of individual rhythms, a phasing between blown or synthetic drones, and metallic polyrhythms.
