ARTISTIC APPROACH

“Poetry is made in the ear.”

Clément Vercelletto is a musician and stage director. His artistic research focuses on the

points of articulation and clarity between these two practices—specifically, how sound can

serve as a conceptual and structural premise for activating bodies and voices on stage.

He approaches sound and music as mediums for improvisation, composition in situ, and

staging. He conceives of music primarily as material—energetic and organic—shaped

through the body and gesture.

His methodology involves proposing sonic processes to performers, which they use as

formal frameworks, premises, or raw materials to engage voice and/or movement. The

material generated progressively forms the basis of the dramaturgy, in continuous

dialogue with the stage.

His work also seeks to reveal latent fictions—understood in the photographic sense of

“developing”—that exist in potential within perception.

From this perspective, theatre and narrative are considered omnipresent and only require

activation. Embedded in each of his sonic explorations are elements of theatre, dance, and

fiction waiting to surface.

His practice engages with reality, perception, the visible and the invisible, the infra-

ordinary, and the conditions that produce events.
